Cosmetic Dentistry
One of the most common questions asked by the patients in our practice is: What are porcelain veneers?
Veneers refer to mostly cosmetic restorations on anterior teeth. Fitting of the porcelain venires represent the least invasive cosmetic procedure as only the surface of the enamel is slightly ground down. They are made of a special kind of ultra thin porcelain (one millimeter in thickness), the so-called emax pressed dental ceramic. The veneers are indicated for uneven or crooked teeth, irregularities in teeth size and shapes out of proportion, closure of the diastema, yellow teeth that are dark and cannot be whitened or bleached, worn down teeth that make you look old, etc. In individuals with excessive teeth grinding (bruxism) veneers are contraindicated.
The making of the porcelain veneers begins with the making of teeth molds. Using the molds, the veneers are then constructed for each individual tooth. The custom made veneers are then bound to the teeth with a very strong adhesive known as composite cement.
Porcelain veneers can improve your confidence by enhancing and adding a spark to your smile and appearance.
In our surgery we also udertake teeth whitening procedure. There are two different methods and their choice depends on the individual’s circumstances and the patient's wishes.
Teeth whitening procedure is performed with a Zoom lamp. It is done in one visit and the result is visible immediately. If the patient wants, teeth whitening can also be done at home. Then, the bleaching is performed within five to ten days with the required control in the dental surgery.
